The weather was mild and the spirits high. Upward of 300 swimmers braved the North Sea this morning to raise money for the RNLI. So popular was the event that I could only get to a good enough position to take a photograph as the swimmers were getting dressed and leaving. Next year I am resolved to be in position at least 45 minutes before the starter pistol fires.
Fancy dress was the order of the day: Batman, bearded brides, fairies with wings, full morning dress complete with top hat etc etc. The lifeboat crew were all on hand, dressed in warm all-weather gear, and much too busy and responsible (and sensible) to make the swim – they looked so disappointed !
Perhaps next year they will be luckier.
Now the Christmas holidays are now coming to an end we are beginning to see bookings for 2019 step up. Already visitors are making reservations for the Viking Festival in February, the Crab and Lobster Festival in May, and the Forties Weekend in September. The summer holidays are always popular in Sheringham and we are looking forward to another hot one.
